Celebrating Ganesh Utsava

Motivational Process of celebrating Festivals

In our culture the tradition of festival celebration was established to spread the message of good deeds, harmony,  peace. Over time the true meaning of festival was lost, and became mere expensive occasions. Yug Rishi, our Gurudev- pt. Shree Ram Sharma Acharya started to revive festivals true meaning and inspired millions. His efforts are showing true results , but lot more needs  to be accomplished.

In near future three important festivals are on horizon. These festivals are very popular among people and are celebrated collectively over several days. These festivals are:

Ganesh Utsav:

Celebrated from Ganesh Chaturthi to Anant Chaturdashi(10 days). This year we celebrate from September 5th to September 15th.

Pitrapuksh:

Celebrated from Bhadrapad purnima to Ashwin Amawasya. This year from September 16 th to September 30th.

Navratri Utsav:

Celebrated from Ashwin Shukla Pratiprada to Shukla Navmi. This year from October 1st to October 10 th.

Above listed festivals are celebrated with very high enthusiasm worldwide. In addition to celebrating with very high enthusiasm and devotion, we should make an effort to understand their philosophy and scientific significance.

Festival with obeisance

Ganesh Utsav and Navratri are celebrated with very high enthusiasm and lot of pomp and show. Devotees establish statues of Lord Ganesh and Maa Durga in their homes and neighborhood. And perform daily Aarti (morning and evening) and other rituals.

Most of the time, it is observed  that these festivities doesn't serve any purpose other than mere entertainment.  And does not include any spiritual activity. We should also make an effort to include Shradda Sadhnatmak programs.

Shradha means utmost love for ideals. With Shradda we start to mold ourselves in these ideals automatically.

Ganpati represents wisdom and intellect. He also represents ideals, inspiration and leadership. Participants of Ganesh Utsav should be inspired to imbibe wisdom and intellect in their daily life.

Every action should be taken after analyzing using intellect and wisdom.
  • Disciplinarian should observe a special discipline of chanting/writing the Ganpati or Ganesh Gayatri Mantra during these ten- days of Ganesh Utsav period. During this time devotees should observe desires and senses - continence (Indriya Sanyam ), and/or observe fasting with easily digestible, balanced diet in limited quantity, and/or practice celibacy along with taciturnity or be reticent for a fix timely routine, etc.
  • Put extra effort, be revolutionary to get rid of these prevailing unconscionable , unreasonable, lavish uneconomical, orthodox -conservative traditions in various societies functions commemorated by various class of people by prudent economical, eco-friendly and disciplinary best practice.

Scientifically discretion consentient process

Both occasions and celebrations should also be emphasized upon requiring to obtain  the prudent and scientific aspects of these festivals . For example:

Statues of Idols:

To keep environment clean, Devotees should use more Eco-friendly statues in their worship. Manufacturers should be encouraged to make these idols Eco-friendly. Artists making these statutes must be educated and convinced to stop using paint colors and polishes that might contain poisonous and toxic chemicals . Many efforts in this direction has been done, but still a lot to be achieved in spreading awareness .

• Organizers of these festivities  and  priests should take pledge that they will not purchase/pray statues made up of plaster of paris and Toxic color and varnish.

• We must follow new tradition of creating small ponds or pits near rivers, in which these statutes should be recycled. In big cities, rivers are highly polluted. Therefore instead of dumping idols of our deities in these rivers, we should adopt a tradition of bury them with respect in clean environment .

• In the name of cultural programs, creating disturbances in late night hours, creating sound pollution, disturbing sleep, disturbing students in their study time is also considered unthoughtful and against wisdom. We should make these festivities more spiritual oriented, so that people can obtain maximum benefit from these festivities and these painful disturbing activities can naturally be discreetly discharged. Also this will benefit those Saadhaks who follow their rigid discipline during these days by rising early morning for Sadhana and other spiritual activities

Therefore, we must encourage everyone to give importance to scientific aspect and philosophy of these festivals .
